Tall Perch
Finally, last weekend, the long 4th of July weekend, I finished assembling the tall perch I have wanted for Nina . . . or any future hawks I have. Last year the maintenance manager at work was kind enough to allow a round bar to be welded with a post. But I have needed to get the 10' pole to mount it on, and also to wrap the perch. Last weekend I did all this. It took Nina only a very short time to figure it out. We do an exercise, where I feed her tidbits on the ground. She has to fly back up to the perch top before she gets another tidbit. This is very short, but very strenuous work. So if I feed her like this now for the rest of the summer, she'll be good and fit in the fall, and we won't have near as much work to do to get her ready for hunting. When I'm around the house I can put her out on this perch. She appears to like being high up! It is safe, except only from other aerial predators. Which is why she is out there only when I'm around . . . just in case!! There are wild hawks in the area!!
